Nothing says corporate trust like a deepfake of your boss asking for a confidential wire transfer.
What happened
The US Justice Department indicted three men accused of using AI to impersonate company CEOs and lawyers, tricking employees into wiring about $129 million to accounts they controlled. Two were arrested in Spain and one was detained in the UK; extradition requests are pending. The conspiracy allegedly ran from 2024 to 2026.
