What happened
A NewsGuard investigation found OpenAI's Sora 2 produced convincing news-style fake videos for 16 of 20 known false claims tested between September 24 and October 10, 2025, including five tied to Russian disinformation campaigns. NewsGuard also found the visible watermark could be removed in under four minutes and public-figure filters were inconsistent. AI-generated clips of supposed antifa protesters being pepper-sprayed spread widely on social media in early October 2025.
