What happened
Sophos researchers adapted an AI tool built for e-commerce scams to generate fake political campaign websites and personalized emails. Using OpenAI's GPT-4o, they produced emails that fabricated or omitted policy points to persuade users who disagreed with a campaign. The work is a proof of concept; no real campaign or voter was reported harmed.
