What happened
Researchers at ETH Zurich found GPT-4 and other large language models could infer attributes such as location, income, and gender from Reddit posts, reaching up to 85% top-1 accuracy. In an experiment, one GPT-4 bot extracted personal details from another through innocuous questions, and common mitigations like text anonymization and model alignment were found to be ineffective. The researchers called for a broader privacy discussion.
