Scammers cloned a lawyer's voice from a 15-second clip and nearly bailed out the wrong guy for $30K

Ourtake

The grandparent scam now comes with a voice that sounds exactly like your kid's lawyer.

What happened

Scammers used a voice clone, reportedly built from a 15-second clip of consumer protection attorney Jay Shooster's voice, to pose as him claiming he had been arrested, nearly tricking his father into paying $30,000 in fake bail. Shooster shared the attempt on X and called for tighter AI regulation. The article also cites a UCL study finding people failed to spot AI voices 27% of the time.
