Air Canada's chatbot invented a refund policy, and a court made the airline honor it
Ourtake
Turns out a chatbot on your website is just the website, and the website is legally on the hook.
What happened
Air Canada's website chatbot told a British Columbia passenger he could get a bereavement fare discount within 90 days of a flight, which was incorrect. The airline refused to grant the discount retroactively, and a Canadian civil court ruled the airline liable for negligent misinformation, awarding $650.88 in damages.
