Facial recognition false match leads to wrongful arrest lawsuit against Reno
Ourtake
A match the system scored as near-certain was still treated as grounds to arrest, and the case now turns on whether officers were trained to question it.
What happened
A lawsuit alleges Reno police wrongfully arrested a man after a facial recognition match from the Peppermill Casino's system. His attorneys have moved for partial summary judgment, arguing the city is liable. A former casino security officer declared that up to half of the alerts he saw were false positives, while the casino's security director testified the rate was around 10 percent.
