Facial recognition fingers the wrong woman, and she loses six months to jail
Ourtake
A match that police policy says cannot stand alone was treated as enough to take someone's liberty for half a year.
What happened
A Tennessee woman has sued the City of Fargo, North Dakota and a police detective after a facial recognition search falsely identified her as a suspect in a bank theft. She was arrested in Tennessee and spent six months in jail before being released. The complaint says the detective sought a warrant without corroborating the match, and seeks $10 million in damages.
