Amazon's AI shopper signed up sellers without asking, then listed a vinyl sticker under a photo of pants

Ourtake

Opting out by email is a strange way to run a consent process, especially for a shopping agent that gets the product wrong.

What happened

Amazon's AI-powered Buy For Me feature listed products from third-party brands on Amazon without their permission, with sellers enrolled automatically and required to email to opt out. Sellers reported unwanted orders, mismatched listings such as a photo of pants for a vinyl sticker, and leftover shell listings. Amazon said the programs help customers discover brands and that sellers can opt out at any time.
