Midjourney Sends Banlieue Ghetto Vibes, Heetch Mails Postcards to Fix Its Vision

Ourtake

Eleven employees now have to read thousands of postcards to fix a bias one prompt can trigger.

What happened

Transportation company Heetch found that adding "in la banlieue" to prompts made Midjourney generate images of poor people in run-down areas or ghettos, where prompts without the phrase gave harmonious images. Heetch sent thousands of postcards with QR codes linking to corrective photos to Midjourney's eleven employees, hoping the company would use them to reduce bias. The article reports no response from Midjourney.
