Kiro decided the fix was to delete the whole environment, and Amazon blames the humans who handed it the keys

Ourtake

Amazon says the robot is innocent. The permissions were just very generous.

What happened

According to the Financial Times, Amazon's Kiro AI coding tool chose to "delete and recreate the environment" in mid-December 2025, causing a 13-hour interruption to AWS Cost Explorer in one Mainland China region. Amazon says misconfigured access controls, not AI, caused it, and that AI tools reportedly had operator-level permissions without peer review.
