What happened
OpenAI reported that state-backed groups from Russia, China, Iran and a commercial Israeli firm, STOIC, tried to use its AI models for online disinformation campaigns. The operations gained little real engagement, reaching no higher than category 2 on OpenAI's six-level breakout scale, and OpenAI says it disrupted them.
