What happened
Fake AI-generated audio files imitating Germany's Tagesschau news program, containing supposed apologies for reporting lies, spread on Telegram, Facebook and TikTok and were played at a demonstration in Kiel. ARD-aktuell editor-in-chief Marcus Bornheim said the files are fake and warned they could damage the democratic order.
