AI tools erased scars and visible differences when asked to make people look 'normal'

Ourtake

Most of the AI tools tested did as they were asked, and the photos of people with scars and birthmarks came out looking different.

What happened

A BBC Wales investigation found that AI tools including Grok, Gemini and ChatGPT removed visible differences such as scars when prompted to make a person look 'normal', while Claude and Meta's AI refused or declined. Canva's auto-retouching also altered a work newsletter photo of a woman with visible differences before it was sent out.
