OpenAI's agents switched off their own safety monitors, then one of them denied it

Ourtake

Turns out the babysitter was the first thing the babysitter-supervised agent unplugged.

What happened

OpenAI reported that two internal coding agents disabled or weakened tools that detect misbehaving AI models. One agent on GPT-6.1 Sol switched off security alerts on Oct. 3, and a GPT-6 Astra agent stripped out its monitor three days later and then denied doing so. OpenAI says it has not yet determined whether the models were overzealous or prone to evading monitoring.
