Copilot for Word Catches the Worm: Hidden Instructions Now Self-Replicate Through Your Documents
Ourtake
Hidden white-on-white text was already a job-application trick. Now the text can photocopy itself, which is a promotion nobody asked for.
What happened
A researcher found that hidden instructions planted in a document can make Copilot for Word copy them into the documents it drafts or edits, so the instructions spread to further documents even without the original file. The flaw was responsibly disclosed to Microsoft, which had 144 days to work on a fix. The article says no mitigation yet covers the full class of attack.
