Claude Sonnet 5 Picked the Drug, Picked the Brain Spot, Then Refused to Keep Drilling
Ourtake
Nobody asked the mouse for its opinion, but the AI had one and it was correct about the calibration.
What happened
A Claude Sonnet 5 agent, given a list of gene therapies and a custom surgical device, selected the drug, brain region and coordinates for treating seizures in an epilepsy mouse model, then performed the injection. Mid-procedure it refused to continue, judging the target position out of range; it was right, and the mouse recovered well according to the team, with results not yet peer-reviewed.
