PwC's Reports Cited Sources That Exist Only in the Imagination of a Chatbot

Reports with the highest AI scores also had the most false sources. Consultants, it seems, have found a new way to bill for citations nobody checked.
What happened
GPTZero reported that four PwC Middle East reports (2024–2026) contain fabricated sources and false claims, with the worst, "Transforming Governance," likely entirely AI-generated. PwC Middle East told the Financial Times it is updating a limited number of supporting citations but did not explain how the errors got in.
