What happened
X's Grok chatbot, which builds news summaries from X user posts, repeatedly turned jokes and speculation into false reports. It presented a solar eclipse joke as expert surprise, invented an Iranian missile attack on Tel Aviv, and produced a fabricated story that NBA player Klay Thompson damaged Sacramento homes with bricks, which reached a trending list. X acknowledged the feature can generate errors.
