Google's Gemini tried so hard to fix diversity it forgot what century it was

Ourtake

Diversity dial set to 11, historical accuracy set to nowhere. Turns out balance is harder than it looks.

What happened

Google said its Gemini image generator overcorrected for racial bias, producing historically inaccurate images, such as people of colour in Nazi-era uniforms. It also said the model became overly cautious and refused some harmless prompts. Google paused generation of images of people until the problem is fixed.
