Asylum Interview Summaries From Home Office AI Fail One in Five Expert Checks

Roughly one in five checked summaries failed review, and the applicants whose interviews were summarised were not told AI was used.
What happened
After the UK Home Office rolled out an AI tool that summarises asylum interviews to all caseworkers, 45 of 203 expert-checked summaries failed an initial review, about 22%, against 9% in the pilot. The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration is considering the tools for its 2027 inspection plans, and the data regulator is separately investigating. The figures do not show that any applicant was wrongly refused.
